From the first bite of my tuna tartare I knew I was going to really like Bison and Bourbon. It was a Saturday night right after a weekend of post family wedding celebrations and my friend texted me if I wanted to get apps and drinks at the new hip kosher restaurant in Gowanus. I'd been meaning to go check it out right after it opened but hadn't gotten around to it. Plus I was already dressed up appropriately so I agreed. We brought our husbands along and made it a double date. From the moment we walked through their terrace area we were blown away. Good food pleases me greatly but ambiance makes everything all the more special! I love the industrial hip vibe this spacious 2 floor joint has to offer. Equipped with a massive bar down it's length on one side and eat in lounge area upstairs, the entire experience is extremely unique. We were lucky for having been able to reserve a table since it was packed with diners when we arrived. The food and drinks was served up really fast and our waiter was courteous and helpful. The dishes which are decent in size and filling as well are a little up there in price, but worth every cent in my mind. Saturday nights often bring live performers and on this occasion there was a dj there. It was a bit loud and slightly club like at times which was slightly overwhelming while attempting conversation but the music was wonderful nonetheless. Every dish served was seasoned perfectly with great flavors and creative plating. Here's what we ordered: Tuna Tartare served on avocado with compressed cucumber and honey chili vinaigraite, a Trio of Lamb Sliders with cucumber mint slaw and dill aioli were very enjoyed by my husband and a ginger daiquiri so extraordinary for this lady. Our friends seemed impressed with their House Charcuterie Board, Bourbon Pulled Beef and whatever else they ordered that evening. On our way out we headed over to a big window on the left side which offers a really interesting view into their kitchen where you can watch the chefs work and prepare dishes, this really took the experience up a notch for me. On the way home we discussed how impressed we were and our plans for going back in the future. I'd have to say this was one of my favorite restaurant experiences this past year and we will certainly return for dinner sometime very soon.
