Pescada New York Kosher Restaurant Review

March 9th marks a special day for my husband and I, as it is the day we got married back in 2008. Because our gift plans were a bit extravagant this year, we decided to keep the dining out part a bit more simple. We chose to visit Pescada for lunch and it was just what we were hoping for.

The decor has a cool modern vibe with the turquoise accent walls, white furniture and small succulents adorning each table. It was the actual food that really impressed us!

The staff was really nice and accommodating from the moment we walked in, even with a full store at hand. Our waiter was very helpful with recommendations and explanations. The food came out fairly quickly as well. The prices were extremely decent and the actual portions were enormous.

Our drinks came out first. I chose an iced Toffee Caramel and I've completely forgotten what the other one drink was called as it was recommended by our waiter. They were both super tasty and refreshing!

My husband ordered the miso glazed seabass with a side of zucchini fries and pescada fries. The plating was done exquisitely and as we are both big fans of seabass we are both a bit particular about how it's served. They did it perfectly! The fries were delicious as well.

My favorite thing served was my warm haloumi salad. I've tasted plenty of haloumi salads because I really love haloumi and I have to say I've never had one that measured up to this one. The base was romaine and it was topped with loads of grilled veggies. The actual haloumi balls were just right in size, breaded nicely and coated in a yummy glaze. The dressing was really tasty and complimentary too.

I ordered a Penne Rose which I ended up bringing home and reheating for dinner because I was so full! I loved that it wasn't the typical pasta sauce served in every dairy restaurant lately. The fact that they didn't load it up with basil- my least favorite flavor, was also great!

You may think that I always write positive restaurant reviews, but the fact is I spend a lot of time researching before we eat out since we don't do it very often as we like to reserve it for special occasions. I am usually able to gage whether or not I will have a good experience somewhere and find food to my taste, in ahead of time. This is the reason these posts often have a slightly more positive tone.

We had an absolutely lovely time at Pescada! We will definitely be visiting again, perhaps for dinner next time. I literally have not one negative thing to say.

If there is anything you feel I have left out and are curious about, please do leave any questions and comments in the form below this post and I will gladly address them!

Pescada is under the Rabbinical supervision of Rabbi Y. Gornish. The restaurant is located on 509 Avenue P Brooklyn NY 11223. Their phone number is 347-702-5711 and they are open between 11:30-5 for lunch and 5:30-10:30 in the evening for dinner.

This post was not sponsored. All of my opinions were honest ones based on my experience!

Have you been to Pescada? What was your experience? If not, would you like to visit and eat there?

Thanks so much for stopping in!

Butter London Glitz & Glam 4 Piece Nail Lacquer Collection

If you know me at all, you will know how I stick to my OPI and Essie Nail Polishes and hardly veer from them. I thought this set of 4 Butter London polishes were a great value for money while giving me the chance to explore a new brand. While they wear beautifully and are gorgeous on the nails, they were a bit too typical and neutral for me after all. Looking back at Sephora's website I think this specific set may have actually been limited edition since it's out of stock at this point. They do sell some Butter London shades individually so if there is one you specifically love, you may just be able to locate it. Sephora and other beauty sites do often offer other sets like these.

The set comes with 4 shades for $29 and if you make your calculations that isn't really too bad for 4 decent sized nail polishes. My favorite is the white-pink color which went on the most opaque of them all on the first layer. They were really easy to apply and the wand wasn't  too thick or thin when attempting an even coat.

I was most impressed by the wear time as they didn't get a single chip for 1 full week. Don't forget that I am a mom with two children and a household to handle. This includes lots of baths, dishes and bottle washing so this is almost unheard of! That was without a base coat and top coat too.

Because these are such neutral, slightly typical shades for me, they aren't getting that much wear. Especially around  this time of year when I live in those burgundies, navy's and plums. Because everything else about these is pure perfection, I feel the need to look into another set of theirs that has some more of those different shades and finishes that I may not already own.

Are any of the Butter London polishes in your nail polish collection? Do you love the formulation like I do? Leave me some recommendations for colors you love if you do, I love hearing from you! If you don't have any of these yet, do you want to purchase some?

Thanks so much for stopping by!

My Experience Enduring a 5 Day Jus by Julie Juice Cleanse

10 months after having my baby, I still had about 12 pounds of excess weight that decided it would sit on my hips, belly and face and not budge. I was exercising daily and eating a very moderate healthy diet so it truly did not add up for me. With Springs arrival and a need for wardrobe updates, I felt I required a system reset of sorts to get my body in on the program. After hearing some great things about the Jus by Julie juice cleanse, I began looking into it on Groupon and all over the web. The reviews were pretty wonderful. I called up their store and spoke to the women there for a while. She explained exactly how it works and what it is targeted to do. It sounded like it would be really difficult for me to endure but at the same time very promising. One Sunday, I geared myself up and decided to take the plunge. I also agreed that although there are a few different variations you can choose, the 5 day with no dinner was the way to go. In my mind it was "do it all the way, or not at all". I created an entire video throughout the process, showing how my body looked and talking about the individual juices and how it all felt for me, so watch that here or read until the end of the post to find out more.

Here is some basic information:

A 5 day cleanse comes with 6 juices a day. I was so full after 4-5 and never required a 6th, but this will certainly vary according to individual body weight and dietary requirements.

The entire regiment cost me about $200 because I asked the store clerk to match the groupon deal and she agreed.

5 Day Cleanse on Jus By Julie site here

These juices stay fresh for 3 days so freezing some of them is an option. I did not want to do this, so I brought home 3 days worth and went back to the store on the third day to get the last 2 days worth of juices. I found this to be ideal because at that point I knew which ones I preferred and I was then able to customize it a bit.

I started it on a Monday morning and finished on a Friday night. On Sunday morning the scale showed that I had lost a total of 8 pounds. My actual goal was not just to shed some unwanted weight but mostly to reduce bloat and give my system a reset. In that way I feel I succeeded according the before and after images.

I truly thought this would be far harder for me then it turned out to be since I love food so much. The only difficult part for me was towards the end when I felt I just wanted something solid to chew on. Other then that I felt pretty good throughout! I feel even better now after it all. Now, a full week later I have managed to keep the weight off by keeping to a moderate diet and only eating when I am hungry etc. I have also been exercising again this whole week. In fact, getting on the scale this morning I have noticed that I lost another pound. I am thrilled with my results obviously and I do feel like these juices helped get me started in a really huge way. With Purim having just passed and an influx of candy and cookies here, I am amazed and proud of myself for my endurance and maintenance of self control!

Jus by Julie did not sponsor this video or blog post. I truly decided to try it on my own and paid with it entirely with my own money. I will be posting more health, diet and fitness related blogs in the near future as well so look out for them and feel free to request any you'd specifically like to see.

I really hope this will be helpful to you if you were planning on doing a juice cleanse, maybe this one specifically and you were wondering about it!

NYX Intense Butter Gloss 3 Piece Set, Review

I have been wearing the NYX megashine lip glosses for as long as I can remember! Then the butter glosses were released, and because my lip product section of the makeup drawer was feeling a bit overcrowded at the time, I skipped on them. While perusing Ulta's website late one evening, I came across this set and I just couldn't pass it up. I'm glad I didn't.

These colors are different then anything else I've ever owned. My favorite amongst the three is "spice cake" and my least favorite "black cherry tart" since it always travels a bit outside of the lip lines (as you can see in the photos below). It's the formulation and pigmentation that really wow me though. They do need to be layered once or twice to get a perfect look but are so opaque in color once done that I would assume they are a shiny lipstick if I didn't know better. The colors themselves are actually exactly as they look in the packaging which is helpful. They are extremely creamy feeling on the lips but at the same time they do have a slightly tacky/waxy feel which helps them adhere to the lips for a couple of hours, leaving behind a stain when they finally wear off. That stickiness is nowhere near uncomfortable as the Mac lip glosses which are just unbearable for me.

NYX got their applicator just right as always with the soft, thin and pretty flat doe foot style wand with a rounded tip to keep things even and smooth looking. The packaging is also so adorable with the signature NYX heart print. And I'm obviously crazy about how they've named them after cakes!

Spice Cake

Black Cherry Tart

I truly love everything about these glosses and now I need to get myself some of the lighter shades. It usually goes the other way around doesn't it?

Have you given these butter glosses a try? If you have did you like them? Which shades would you recommend I go for next? If you haven't would you like to?

Thanks so much for stopping in!

Tan Metallic Eyes and Bold Berry Lip Tutorial (video)

I have already confessed my devotion for the Mac pigments. They truly are so gorgeous, especially when they are mixed with some fix+ which gives a more metallic-like finish. I have so many of them in my collection, and yes I know a full review is definitely due. I will certainly get working on that.
I am so happy with how this look turned out, and I've been wearing it a whole lot for special occasions where I want to have that glam effect without looking too over the top. For that reason, I thought it was about time I did a video tutorial showing you exactly how I achieve the look from start to finish. And that is exactly what I finally did. Watch this weeks video here to see that, or read till the end of the post where I will insert it as always!

Now for a full list of products and brushes used:

I know it's a long list of products! I was a little bit excited about some of my latest purchases and I've been making good use of them ever since they arrived.

Let me know what you think of this look in the comments form below, I love hearing from you!

My March 2016 Wishlist

March has been a great month so far. I hope it's been the same for the rest of you! I love hearing the birds chirping and the promise of Springs arrival. It literally just brightens my mood completely! Keeping within that cheerful theme is this months wishlist. I've been very slowly choosing decor pieces for my home. It's pretty ridiculous that we've been living here for over 2 years and have almost no wall decor. So I am on the hunt for something pretty to hang above our couch, a clock is also definitely in order in that living room area. I'm also trying to find a little something print wise to brighten up my office. Lighting is being researched, as well as a mirror for filming makeup tutorials.  At the same time, I'm also looking at some fun new spring accessories, including bright nail polishes, floral scents, neutral heeled sandals, gold rings, interesting earrings (owls are always on my list!) and possibly a new pair of sunnies? I am contstantly working on some home organization and fun gadgets and decor pieces to help me with that. Lastly, with this fresh weather heading our way hopefully and possibly some Spring style shopping, healthy eating is a must! Why don't I own a spiralizer yet? I don't even know!

What is on your wish list this month?
I'd really like to know! Leave it in the comments below this post!

Smashbox Step By Step Contour Stick Trio, Review

Contouring is a fantastic method for faking perfect cheekbones, a chiseled jawline and a slim nose! When the cream contour trend came about, I was unsure whether it was for me. But then I attempted it and realized how beautiful it looks! I've been trying all sorts of cream products to get the look and as this set came highly recommended, I had to give it a go.

The shade contour is what I was focusing on when I purchased this. It is a great cool toned brown color that gives a nice shadowed look. It does not blend out as well as other cream contour products I've tried though. The bronze and highlight ones were pretty much useless to me. The bronze one being far to orange on me and the highlight being a lot more like a concealer type product that just matched my skin tone but didn't brighten it.

Although pencil style contour and highlight products would be ideal for application, I think I prefer it in a pot or pan style with a brush to apply since these will sharpen down and be gone pretty quickly.

These come with a little fold-up guide for how to apply cream contour and highlight product which I think is great for the beginner. Smashbox is always good at that.

The pigmentation is right on with these and once set into place they aren't moving around for 6-10 hours.

I was not in love with how these blended out on my face and considering that the contour shade was the one shade I would have possibly made use of, I could not justify the $45 price tag. Although I think the idea behind these is fabulous, I am still searching for a cream contour and highlight product that ticks all of the boxes for me.

Have you given these contour sticks a try? If you have, what did you think of them? If you haven't,  do you want to?

Let me know in the comments form, along with any other opinions you may have, I love hearing from you all!

How I Keep My Small Pantry Cabinet Organized + Simple Lazy Susan DIY

I have a really tiny kitchen with very little cabinet space. I feel lucky to have been able to design it just the way I like it when we first moved in. From the counter tops to the lighting, cabinetry, hardware, lighting etc. (See the post detailing all of those renovations here). I love my kitchen, I truly do.  It's just not that easy to keep it organized due to the actual amount of square footage. It seems to get so cluttered in just a short amount of time! After living here for 2 years I have finally come to a point where I feel I have a great system in place for keeping things neat and organized.

Perhaps I will share some house organization tips and tricks as I come across them. Today I want to talk about my kitchen. Specifically, my pantry cabinet. It has 3 shelves which quite easily gather items in every corner and space available. An item that really helped me declutter and make the most of the area is my diy lazy susan!

The problem I noticed was a pile up of sauce bottles that didn't quite fit next to each other and always ended up pushed to the back, out of reach. A lazy susan was the obvious solution and the best part, I made it on my own. I used two round baking pans and a bag of marbles from the 99 cent store, some tissue paper I found lying around the house and a glue stick to adhere it. I poured the marbles into one pan and then topped it with the other one. The marbles give the top pan the ability to turn all the way around. I pasted some pink tissue paper in the bottom of the top pan and some white and gold star print tissue paper all around the sides of the top and bottom pan both. I'm sure I could have made it a little more presentable looking but my actual goal was to have it looking less like two pans. It works perfectly and it really saves me so much space!

Now here is how I keep the cabinet looking organized. Once a week I like to look through and take inventory on what I am running low on. When I do that I also move things around a bit. Because I am a short person, I like to keep all of the things I use most often, including those sauces and spices on the lazy susan on the bottom shelf, at hands reach. Also on that shelf I neatly stack pasta boxes, peanut butter, beans etc. Round plastic containers both tall and short are my favorite for storing dried beans, sesame seeds and even pasta when I have just 1/4 of the box left.

The second shelf is also easily accessible and so I keep things on it that I use a little less often but still often enough. Like baking ingredients, canned foods, salt, yeast, brown sugar, nuts etc. Because the sugar and flour bags are messy once opened and slightly awkward in shape to store, I love these tall containers I found at the 99 cent store. I labeled each of them with these beautiful large labels I found in Target distinguishing each one as "flour" or "sugar". They fit on the shelf height wise perfectly and stand side by side, plus each one fits a little more then a bag of flour or sugar inside! The greatest thing about those is that they each have a lift pour tab, large enough to fit a spoon into but small enough to pour without creating a huge mess when being used.

On the third and top most shelf (not shown in the pictures) is where I put things I use not too often or have doubles of. I can only reach this shelf with a step stool, so this is the ideal format. Baking sprinkles, a large bag of sushi rice, extra canned tomato sauce and tuna are all things that end up there.

I'm always searching for new and innovative organization ideas and I gain inspiration all over the web. I'm constantly switching it up and trying to find new ways to optimize my space!

I look forward to sharing more about my home design and organization. If you have any tips on the matter, please do leave them in the comments form!

Thanks so much for stopping by!
