Lush BubbleGum Lip Scrub Review

I mentioned this product in my December beauty favorites video and post. In the comments of that post, so many of your agreed with me on how fantastic it is. These lip scrubs have become  a real cult product in the beauty and blogger world, it seems that anyone who's tried them love them and those that haven't can't wait to get their hands on them! This is probably why I was influenced to purchase  one myself in the first place , and  it's truly something I now love  and  I'll be dramatic and say- "cannot live without". This is now essential to my night time routine, especially during these cold winter months when my lips are inevitably so uncomfortably dry, chapped and peely. TMI? Ok I'll get into the details on this amazing product.

What Lush has to say about it: "Our sweetest confection exfoliates lips smooth, prepping them for your favorite lip color or balm. A blend of Fair Trade sugar and moisturizing jojoba oil..leave your lips soft. Scrub over your lips and then apply your favorite lip color for a flawless finish"

What I think of it:

Texture: Crumby and clumpy, small  beads of sugar are the main item in the makeup of this scrub. Moisturizing ingredients such as jojoba oil give it a very hydrating factor as well. This texture can be somewhat difficult to deal with and messy as well which is the only real downside to this product. I would recommend using it along with a lip balm or salve applied to the lips first and putting it on over a sink or area that is easy to clean after will be a good idea too. It's quite gritty on the lips maybe even a bit too harsh which can leave you with sore lips, using it with a lip balm makes will therefore aid it in being alot less abrasive.  For this reason I prefer to use it only 1 time a day or 2 at the very most. Ideally I choose to put it on before bed or in the morning before I put any lipstick on.

Scent: This lip scrub smells exactly like bubblegum! I'll admit I have tasted the product as well as it was almost impossible not to with it being on my lips and all and it tastes exactly like bubblegum too. The scent might be too sweet for some, it reminds me of the bazooka bubble gum we used to chew as kids so it doesn't bother me in the least.

Performance: This scrub works better then any other lip product I've tried in removing dead skin, smoothing and hydrating the lips all at the same time. I do use this in combination with my Nivea Kiss of Honey lip balm which does a good job of hydrating but definitely doesn't take care of dehydrated flaking lips like this does.

Price: The price is not terrible for the amount of product in the jar. I can see this lasting me a few months and because it works so well, the amount spent on it is already well worth it. Can you make this at home? I would assume it wouldn't be too difficult and probably more cost efficient. Maybe I'll make a little project of it some day soon.

Packaging:  This product comes in a little glass jar with a screw on lid that closes quite tightly. I think it looks pretty nice too with the pink product in packaging with white words on a black label and black lid. The actual jar is quite small and therefore not too difficult to carry in a traveling bag as well.

Variations: This lip scrub comes in two other flavors permanent to the Lush lip scrub line. They are called Mint Juleps and Popcorn none of which sound particularly appealing to me. I'll have to smell each of them the next time I step into a Lush store and see what I think then.  It is nice that there are other options for those who find the bubble gum version too sickly sweet.

Overall:

I absolutely love this lip scrub, my husband has snuck some for his own lips as well and that says alot about a product! It can be a bit messy and even irritating when overused or applied without a balm, the scent is super sweet and the price may be a bit much to some being that it's a pot of sugar more or less. The reason it has impressed me so much is that it actually works so well. The pretty packaging and bubblegum scent are great add ons and make this product that much more fun! The next time I head into Lush I will be trying more lip products from their line, that's for certain!
