Alterna Bamboo Smooth Kendi Oil Dry Oil Mist Review

Alterna Bamboo Smooth Kendi Oil Dry Oil Mist $25.00 for Full Size 4 Oz (Sample Size 30 Ml Shown here)

I have begun discussing the topic of hair a bit more lately as I get more and more familiar with it myself. Before I was married I had really thick unmanageable hair that I constantly kept in a low side pony-not really the prettiest look if you ask me now, but it worked. I used the typical $2-$3 drugstore shampoos available in our house and stuck to basic styling which meant a little bit of hair iron straightening and nothing else. I never used heat protectant sprays, dry shampoos or hair oils and rarely took haircuts so clearly I was alot more concerned about makeup then hair products. After getting married and beginning to cover my hair ( a topic of which I've discussed plenty already here and here) it began to thin out a little and relax interestingly enough. It's only in the past year that I've discovered how fun hair can really be between styling, coloring, well performing hair products, etc. I'm even considering going to school so that I can do it as a profession along with my makeup work. But I digress.

Have you tried hair oils? I tried my first spritz of the stuff a little over a year ago now courtesy of my cult favorite, Biosilk Silk Therapy Shine on Spray. These sprays are now some of my most used products in regards to my hair care routine as they have the ability to tame frizz and attack unruly strands. I turn to them on days when the humidity is not on my side and my hair just looks a bit dull. With just a couple spritzes the freshness is back and my hair is smooth and silky looking once again. This Alterna Kendi Dry Oil Mist has been the latest addition and I do think it works nicely. In fact it has already gotten a mention in last months beauty favorites so I assume it's pretty clear how much I like it.

What Alterna has to say about it: "This lightweight instantly absorbing mist can be used as a treatment or a style primer to eliminate frizz, shield hair from heat styling tools, enhance shine and shield color while boosting your hairs health. Best for use on Normal Hair types"

What It Does For My Hair: I have definitely noticed that my hair seems softer with a healthy looking shine when using this product. At the same time it's super lightweight so my hair doesn't feel weighed down or appear oily. As for it's claims of protecting hair from the heat of styling tools I don't ever use heat tools on my wig so I really can't vouch for that. All in all I do feel like it helps my hair appear healthier and more beautiful.

Scent:  To me the scent is lovely but faint and not bothersome at all.

Packaging: At first sight the looks are nice but the bottle in which the product is housed is quite junky and plastickey feeling. In fact I stored it on it's side and it leaked over everything around it, not a very fun mess to clean up. It could be that my specific one was faulty or got damaged in the process of being shipped to me so no assumptions being made but it definitely did annoy me. I do like that its a spray bottle which spritzes out a fine mist but that's the only good thing I have to say about the actual packaging situation.

Price: Since it performs well I think the price is only just decent due to the product leaking on first use.

Ingredients: This hair product is supposed to contain all natural ingredients including avocado oil and olive oil both of which are good at penetrating the hair at the roots.

Who it work best for: I would recommend this for use on medium - thick hair as it may be a bit heavy for thin strands and may not work as well for extremely thick hair.  If you have frizz that you just want to relax a bit or hair that seems a bit blah looking this will be your perfect hair product choice!

My Instructions and Tips: 2-3 light spritzes should be good enough for an entire head of hair and although it's specified to be used on damp hair I think it works just fine on dry hair too.

Overall: The product itself performed very well. The packaging was my least favorite part of the entire item and is the reason I wouldn't repurchase. Wether or not it was just a faulty piece I just really had a bad experience with having to clean the product off of everything else it spilled onto and money wise I lost half of the product right then and there. Looks like I will be finishing this off and going back to my biosilk spray for the meantime.  Although I did not love certain things about this item I still look forward to trying further things from this company as the actual spray works very well!

P.S. I don't know who named this product but that sure is a mouthful. I think the use of the word oil was definitely overdone! ;)

  3. I have always used really good shampoos and conditioners. Even when I was little my mom always made sure that we had salon brands to use. I haven't used any "hair oil" products in years. But I was recently given several samples when I was purchasing shampoo and conditioner. I am going to try them as soon as I have a little free time.

  4. Oil in a spray bottle looks a lot more convenient than a 'pour in you hand' ordeal. I'm still using up some products but I may check this out when I finish up my other stuff.
