Makeup Product Review: Mac BlackTrack FluidLine Gel Eyeliner

What Mac says about their gel eyeliner:"Ultra-smooth, Fluidline's gel formula provides the precision of a liquid liner with a silkier, softer finish. Goes on “foolproof” with a brush in an easy dip-and-stroke action. Long-wearing. Smudge-proof. Lines up in a rich array of colors and finishes"

I have quite a few gel and cream liners in my collection, one of my oldest favorites being the Maybelline ones which in comparison seem a little more dry in formulation. This one is just a bit more pricey but I've gotta say it's worth every penny. I like this product for lining my lower lash line as it goes on super black, lasts and doesn't irritate my eyes like some others can. I do sometimes use it on my upper lash line as well, even placing it all over the lid for a super intense smokey eye at times.

I get asked about eyeliners alot in regards to what's easiest for beginners to use. If you are fairly new with eyeliners then I would recommend sticking with good old pencils as they are alot more forgiving when you are just getting the hang of it. Gel and liquid eyeliners are usually far better with their long lasting properties but they may just need some practice to get the hang of them.

Item Specifics & What I Think of It:

Formulation- It's on the wetter side for a gel liner which really helps it to glide right into place. It dries fairly quick but still giving you enough time to precisely apply it first. The best tool to use is a thin eyeliner brush, my preferred one is the real techniques fine liner brush which can be purchased at

Color Payoff & Lasting Power: This product is highly pigmented and very little needs to be used to get the look you would like. It lasts on the waterline, lower lash line and upper lash line for hours upon hours without creasing, flaking or budging. It easily outlasts any of my pencil liners that's for sure. At the same time it comes off easily with a good makeup remover.

Variation: It comes in 6 different shades including this one. I have never tried any of the other colors but the blue, purple and brown all look really interesting and I hope I get a chance to try those at some point.

The Packaging: Very sleek with it's clear glass container and black screw on lid which stays on tight and keeps the product from drying out. It's also light and easy to carry around/ travel with.

Price: I think that $15.00 is alright for a great gel eyeliner like this one especially with the amount of product in it. I've had this specific one for over a year and although use it pretty often and it still hasn't dried out or run out.

This has easily become one of my favorite eyeliners because of how black it is and how long it lasts. It has so many purposes- it can be used on the lower lash line, waterline, upper lash line, to tight line, all over the lid etc. I will obviously repurchase this when I run out and I would recommend this to anyone who wants to get started with a good gel liner. It can be purchased at or anywhere else that Mac is sold. I also look forward to trying the other shades.
Application Tips:

1) Using a fine liner brush is the best way to apply this product to the upper lashline. One can be purchased from many cosmetics lines and even a fine paint brush from a craft store will do. For the lower lashline a thicker angled brush should be used for proper product placement.

2) Pick up very little product on the brush to start, adding more as you go. Begin at the inner corner of the eye and work outward buidling it up thicker as you get to the outer corner. Rest your elbow and arm on a hard surface to keep the application steady. Look straight ahead into a mirror as you brush it on to get the line looking just right.
