Fashion Friday: Winter Wishes

Although the end of fall is not quite here some days feel just like the middle of winter here. With that cold weather comes warmer clothing and shopping trips for extra layers. Every season I compile a wishlist. Some items get purchased others inspire me to pick up other similar items and some are just plain wishes. Hopefully my ideas can be inspiring to you in your pre-winter shopping.

Chanuka Gift Guide 2012 Part 2: For The Men

I really planned to have this gift guide up sooner but I had such a busy week and just didn't have time for anything. I feel like I'm lucky to have gotten to bed and put some food in my mouth- that's how insane it was. This is the second part of my chanuka gift guide series and this time it's for the hims- your father, brother, nephew, uncle, son, husband and any other male relations. Because I didn't get this up sooner and didn't get around to a post yesterday I will try my best to get part 3: for the children up as soon as possible as well. Like with the women's gift guide many of these items may be a little expensive for some and therefore I've tried my best to include some less costly options too. I just want to repeat what I had stated in that post as well: whatever gift you purchase will definitely be appreciated either way as it should be about the act of giving the person you care about a special gift then the actual price tag, but hey that's just my opinion. And now, here are my gift ideas:

1) Cologne:

This set is bound to impress. It includes 3 items- a 3 ounce cologne spray, a deodorant stick and an all over shampoo. Scents are pretty personal but this one really smells great to me with it's invigorating Italian lemon and mandarin alongside crushed green leaves, fresh lavender and a defiant punch of pink pepper.

2) Mens Jewelry:

This round faced 46 MM watch really stands out in the crowd with it's black textured dial, date window and quartz movement. Plus, it's water resistant up to 50 Meters.

B) Cufflinks- Donald J. Trump Cufflinks, Crystal Center Cufflinks- $28.99 -These rectangular cufflinks with seven crystals arranged in the center row will make a fantastic gift. That dazzling bling will be the perfect addition to any of his dress shirts.

3) Ties:

Ties are always a good choice when shopping for the men. There's colors and styles to suit every taste and they get alot of use out of it. Here are three that I like and can see my husband going for as well.

4) Skin Care & Shave Essentials:

I know skin care sounds funny when we're talking about males but they most likely will want to and should be able to take care of blemishes, dry skin, oily skin etc. so that they can be comfortable with how their face looks all the time. If they have their own fancy kit they most likely will happily use it.
Also with shaving and all they usually will need something to soothe the area before and after so when we're talking about skin care that is also included.

This set will kick his daily routine up a notch. It includes a face scrub, pre-shave gel, post shave healer and a nice bonus- anti fatigue cooling eye gel.

Another great one by one of my favorite skin care brands. This three-piece kit  consists of a 1 oz Hope In A Jar Oil-Free SPF 30, an 8 oz Razor Sharp Extra-Close Shaving Gel and an 8 oz The Microdelivery Exfoliating Wash.

The Art of Shaving compact and water-resistant Travel Kit & Razor is a necessity for the man on the go. It also makes for a perfect start-up shaving kit. Complete with an elegant Fusion Razor, Pure Badger Travel Shaving Brush, and convenient travel pumps of Pre-Shave Oil (1 oz.), Shaving Cream (1.7 oz.), and After-Shave Balm (1 oz.) His shaving routine will be easy to achieve wherever he travels.

One of the highest rated wet/dry electric shavers with a Jet clean system! Need I say more? I think not.

 5) Accessories & Electronics:

This slim leather wallet has 8 slots. It will make his busy life that much easier and organized.

No more losing battery life when right in the middle of something important. He can now get all of his electronic devices charged up at that same time. This all inclusive charging station from The Sharper Image is an electronic lifesaver for all battery powered needs.

For the man with a fine taste for wine. This sleek, compact wine cellar is great solution for reds, whites and champagnes. By maintaining the ideal storage temperature, it ensures that up to eight bottles of wine preserve their signature bouquet, flavor and body. The brushed stainless steel exterior and softly lit interior make for an elegant, modern display.

I love mini things. This newest one is the latest from Apple and it's everything he loves about iPad in a mini version. It can be conveniently held in one hand!

Have you packed your gifts already or are you going to make use of some gift guides and do some quick last minute purchases now. What are you buying for the men in your life? Please recommend some items in the comments form below as it will be helpful to me and all the others that read it and I love to hear from my readers!

November's Kitchen of The Month & Some Cute Kitchen Accessories

I cannot believe it's the end of November already. I know I say that every month but it seems like the days just fly right passed me somehow.

This is the kitchen I am loving for this month. I found it on pinterest as usual and pinned it to my dream kitchen board. Follow me on pinterest to see more of whats inspiring me lately.

Here is what I love about this kitchen:

1) The simplicity- it's neutral and there's no major color but yet it's extremely striking in it's own way.

2) Those stools which kind of look like really large and old rusty springs on the one hand but give the kitchen a very cottagey rustic feel-something I like alot.

3) The large brown and turquoise colored rectangle floor tiles

4) The big windows- I adore a kitchen with alot of natural lighting. I need to be able to wake up in the morning and drink my coffee while watching the birds hop around the trees from branch to branch chirping a morning melody.

5) The open shelving which seems to be very popular right now.

6) That island with it's painted worn out wood look on the sides and loads of space on top to work and prepare meals etc.

One thing I think this kitchen could do without is that commercial lighting I feel like it could something alot more dainty looking.

What do you think of this kitchen? Is it somewhere you would enjoy cooking.

Here are some cute kitchen accessories to make any space look fun, cheerful & classy!

Makeup Product Review: Smashbox Image Factory Photo Op Eye Shadow Palette: Icon

Smashbox Image Factory Palette: Icon

Product Description:

What Smashbox says about their image factory icon palette $39.00 :
"Fall's most on-trend shades, hot off our studio sets! This limited-edition palette features our velvety-smooth Photo Op Eye Shadow formula in 6 hi-res hues, plus a double-ended brush. Choose ICON for the sultriest shades of the season to create smoldering eye looks"

If you visit my blog often you will know how much I appreciate a nice smokey eye and if you do as well this is the perfect palette for creating one for a night out with it's deep intense shades. It was released for fall 2012 and is limited edition so if you think it's something you'd be interested you'll want to get one quick. I've been switching off between this and my favorite LORAC eye shadow quad but both are perfect this time of year- autumn and winter.
This would also make the perfect chanuka gift if you are looking for something to give to someone who loves cosmetics.

What I Like:
-The packaging is so lovely with it's snap enclosure and that big mirror which is really handy for on the go application.
-The double ended brush that comes along with it is very useful, I like to use the larger one for all over the eye application and the smaller one for lining the lash line with a darker eyeshadow.
-My favorite eyeshadow is the one on the far left bottom hand side called "Roast". It is one that I don't believe I have come across before with it's unique bronzy purply characteristics with a gorgeous shimmer that isn't chunky or annoying.
-Every shade in this palette is extremely pigmented with just the touch of the brush to a color you have enough to blend over a whole eye.
-The shadows are not too powdery so there's no major fall out and they are buttery smooth so they blend out really easily in application.
-They last all day for me after applying them over an eyelid primer or cream shadow, no creasing or crumbling off.

What I Don't Like:
-They all have some shimmery glitter in them I'm more of a fan of matte eye shadows personally.
-I wish there was a few more shades included so that more looks could be created and that they were a bit larger then 0.02 oz as it is quite the expensive eye shadow palette.

Overall:
These eye shadows are great in quality, go on smoothly, can easily be applied on the go with the included travel size dual ended brush as well as the large mirror. I do wish there was a few more shadows included, some more matte shades perhaps and that they were just a bit larger due to the cost.
I think if you don't have a palette like this one already it will be perfect for you as it has everything you need for that easy smokey eye.

The Swatches:
Left to Right: Alabaster- a matte beige shade for highlight, Thunder- light grey with shimmer, Blackout a matte black with a little shimmer, Roast- shimmery brown purple color, Black Currant- a bright purple shade with a slight shimmer, Sea Foam- a very shimmery light green color

On My Eyes- Roast all over the lid and Alabaster on the brow bone and inner corners.
This palette can be purchased at Sephora or at the Smashbox Website.

Some More Of My More Recent Makeup Work

Here are some photos of some of my recent makeup work. This specific makeup was done for a project I am working on. The model is my niece from my husbands side. She is naturally gorgeous and her face is the perfect canvas for exploring my creativity in makeup. I did 3 looks. The first was a graphic liner with navy and black combined with this striking fuchsia lip.

The next look was a turquoise blue smokey eye with lots of lashes and gold accents underneath. This was paired with a glossy nude lip.

This was by far my favorite of all the looks. Can you see how those colors combined just made her green eyes pop?!

And for the last look I added a berry lip to that original turquoise smokey eye.

Which is your favorite?

Also look out for another fun collaboration I will be doing with my niece but this time in the fashion department. Can't wait to share that with you!

Recipe: Baked Goat Cheese Salad with Lemon Pepper Dressing

This is one of those healthier dishes I prepared recently. It went well with my diet of the moment and I think it would be a great dish to serve at a chanuka party as it really did not exert too much effort to prepare and was equally delicious. With the piles of greasy latkes, donuts and chocolate coins that tempt us for 8 days long, a recipe to keep the calories low and the extra pounds off is surely in order. Look forward to some more Chanuka recipes to come- latkes, donuts etc. And now for this simple Goat Cheese Salad Recipe.

Baked Goat Cheese Salad with Lemon Pepper Dressing:

Ingredients:

1 Goat Cheese Log
1 Cup Jason's Seasoned Bread Crumbs
2 Eggs
1 Container of Grape Tomatoes
1/2 Cup of Canned Black Olive Rings
I Can Whole White Button Mushrooms, Sliced in Half
1 Small Red Onion, Diced

Dressing:
3 Teaspoons Lemon Juice
1/2 Tsp Black Pepper
A little bit of Salt
2 Tablespoons Olive Oil
1 Teaspoon Honey

Method:

1. Slice the goat cheese log into thin rounds. Create a breading station with two plates. Pour the seasoned breadcrumbs into one and whisk the two eggs up on the other. Then bread the goat cheese one by one by dipping them into the egg then coating them in bread crumbs, going back into the egg and then finally back into the bread crumbs. Grease a Pan and lay all of the breaded goat cheese pieces out in the bottom. Bake them on 350 for 20 minutes or until they are golden and have an nice crispy coating all the way  around.

2. Prepare the salad- Rinse the grape tomatoes and slice them all in half. Place them in a large salad bowl. Add the black olives rings, sliced mushrooms and diced red onion and mix to combine.

3. Prepare the dressing. Whisk the lemon juice, olive oil, salt, pepper and honey together in a small bowl.

4. Pour the dressing into the prepared salad and mix everything together. Then top it with the pieces of breaded goat cheese immediately before serving.

Friday Fashion: Modestly Yellow Outfit Inspirations

As I've mentioned before in a previous fashion posts one of the guidelines I follow as a religious jewish women is dressing modestly- covering knees and elbows and collar bone- but those are just the basics. It isn't easy for many to find something flattering yet becoming. I always find such great inspiration when scrolling through other fashion blogs, pinterest, google search etc. I thought I would share 3 looks I found this week that make me remember that dressing modestly doesn't mean you can't be cute and fashionable too. Each picture has a common theme- that bright yellow color which screams happy at me. I had a hard week what with every picture in my past posts being deleted by google somehow. Trying to recover 4 years of work has been really tough and made me feel a little down. As soon as I saw these happy pictures with that lovely yellow color I felt alot better somehow.  That color just brought me some light even in my difficult situation. I will rebuild and I will move on. There is a reason for everything and that I know is so true. In comparison with all the terrible things that have been going on in the world- the hurricane and the discontent in Israel this is tiny and so I need to be grateful for what I have- even the challenges I face.

Chanuka Gift Guide 2012 Part 1: For the Women

Chanuka sure crept up on me this year. I'll be honest I haven't even begun to purchase any gifts or plan parties and cooking etc. I hope to get all of that organized this week as it's really getting close. Here is part one of my 3 part gift guide for Chanuka 2012. All of the things I picked are items I am either wishing for, know I would be thrilled to receive as a gift myself and are within the topics of my blog. This one is for the hers- your mother, your sister, your niece, your aunt, your daughter, your wife or any other female relations. I will be putting up another gift guide for both men and children like I did last year so keep posted and check back for that. Many of these items may be a little expensive for some so I tried to include some tighter budget options for each category as well. Whatever gift you purchase will definitely be appreciated either way- it is definitely more about the actual act of giving then the price tag in my opinion!

Every year companies come out with holiday kits and I think those are the best when it comes to beauty items as you can get really great value for your purchase.

1) Nail Polish:

A) Ciate' Caviar Mini Mani Month Paint Pots Kit- $58: I think this kit is adorable. It's a calender shape that contains 17 of their best selling mini polishes. It is also gorgeously packaged- behind each door in the box lies another color. If she is a nail enthusiast, she will love the assortment of colors to choose from including 3 exclusive glitters and 4 caviar blends.

B) Red Carpet Manicure Gel Polish Pro Kit- $39.99: Another fantastic nail kit that has everything included for an at home salon style gel manicure.  It's supposed to give weeks of long wear and shine- sounds pretty great to me!

2) Perfume:

A) Viktor &Rolf Flowerbomb Eau De Parfum Set $120: This beautiful bow shaped perfume gift set comes with a perfume spray, roller ball for on the go and body cream. I've smelled this one when I was at Macy's and even sprayed the sample on my hands as I really liked it right away. It has a very feminine floral scent that lasts for hours.

B) Marc Jacobs Rollerball Trio Gift Set $38.00 :  I already love the scent of almost all of the Marc Jacob perfumes but perfume is usually a thing of tastes. This set includes- Daisy, Daisy Eau So Fresh and Oh, Lola. I think roller balls are fantastic as they can go with you anywhere and don't really take up that much space.

3) Cosmetics:

A) Mac All For Glamour Face Kit- $49.50: I'm usually not a huge fan of Mac's collection packaging but this compact is really gorgeous with that big bow in the front as a clasp. I have to say, they really did a nice job on their holiday packaging this year. The bronzing powder that comes along with it is one of my favorites- golden. The great part is that this kit includes 3 eye shadows and 2 lipsticks which makes a great started kit for someone who is just getting into the whole makeup thing. I like that it includes a handy little brush as well.

 B) Benefit Primed For Takeoff Best of Benefit Makeup Kit -$39.00: this very useful makeup kit comes perfectly packaged in a collectible suitcase with a festive print. 4 of their very best items are included. I already own the first 3 but I am hoping to try that Badgal Lash Mascara in the near future. I've recently reviewed The Porefessional Primer  as well so go check that out for more product specifics.

C) Loreal Color of Hope Kit + Cosmetic Bag $22.46: Loreal is one of my most purchased from brands at the drugstore. This nice silver bag comes stocked with 2 eyeshadow quads, a lip gloss and lipstick for an easy look on the go.

4) Skin Care

A) The Clarisonic Mia 2 Sonic Cleansing System- $111.75: This electronic tool goes beyond cleansing the skin with a sonic technology that gently yet deeply cleans the pores. It can be used daily and may even be used to remove makeup. This specific kit comes with everything that's needed including a travel sized cleanser! I've been eyeing this one for a while as it would make my skin care routine so much easier and less time consuming.

 B) Loreal Youth Code Power Trio Kit- $24.99- One of the items I use in my every day skin care regimen- my cleanser) comes from this line so this inexpensive kit looks like a very useful one and is definitely something I would be interested in.

 C) Laura Mercier Crème Brulee Soufflé Body Crème- $55.00 These body butters smell exactly like their names and they are so great for pampering and nourishing at the end of a long day.

 1) Cookbooks:

A) Susie Fishbein's Kosher By Design Cooking Coach $36.54 Her newest release is one I have yet to own. I love all of her previous books but would love to add this one to my collection.

B) Levana Kirschenbaum's The Whole Foods Kosher Kitchen Cookbook- $20.48 This is one of my favorite healthy cooking cookbooks right now. I've fully reviewed it here.

2) Cooking Randoms:

This one is not so much a cooking item but is on my wish list for sure!

A) Keurig B60 Single K-Cup Brewer Coffee Maker- $149.99: This coffee machine brews coffee for you in the comfort of your own home in under a minute. There are so many amazing options included as well and many different flavors offered to purchase and use with the machine. Coffee will no longer be a hassle to prepare and no more mess afterwards. Great for the morning rush.

Each knife features an edge forged from high-quality stainless steel, renowned for its outstanding cutting ability and guaranteed by a super-precise hand-honing process. It may seem expensive but wait till you try these knives, you will then understand why it is important to have a set like this in your kitchen.

C) Calphalon 11" Nonstick Square Grill Pan $39.99- Grilling foods is a lot healthier then most other cooking option. You can grill indoors all winter long easily with this oven safe non stick grill pan.

D) Wilton 101 Piece Cookie Cutter Set $15.92- This is the bakers dream. Cookie cutters can be used to make shapes out of all sorts of cooked goods as well. This set has one for every occasion.

 1) Handbags & Clutches:

A)  Rebecca Minkoff Mini Mac Crossbody Clutch $195.00- This is a small yet classy bag. It comes in loads of fabulous colors and fits all of the important essentials- money,  i.d., keys, gum, and mints.

Feel free to leave your gift recommendations in the comments form below- believe me we could all use some extra help!

Before I close off I just want to repeat myself in saying that unfortunately there has been a terrible technical error on my blog which has removed all of my photos in the previous posts. I did begin to try and recover what I could but you may notice some posts without any pictures and some with black photos. I will try to correct this issue and get all of my posts back up and running as soon as possible. It is taking me quite some time which is the reason for the delay in my normal blogging schedule. Thank you for supporting me, reading my blog and following me through it all, it means the world to me!!

I will be choosing my cookbook giveaway winner in just a half hour's time and posting the name tomorrow morning so if you would still like the chance to win then head over there now and enter!
