Makeup Product Review: Benefit Cosmetics The POREfessional Primer

Benefit The POREfessional Primer:

Product Description:

Primer is a product that I feel is a very important step in any makeup routine. It helps smooth out & prepare the skin for applying a makeup base and also aids in keeping the makeup in place for longer. This specific primer is one that I like to keep in my makeup artists kit as it's handy in many situations. Over time accumulated sun damage, environmental factors and natural aging begin to effect the appearance of the skin which can sometimes be characterized with fine lines and enlarged pores. If you are looking to improve on those details then this will most likely be a good product for you.

What Benefit says about their porefessional primer 0.75 fl oz $30 : "Quickly minimize the appearance of pores & fine lines for smoother-than-smooth skin! Apply this silky, lightweight balm alone, under or over makeup. Translucent, oil-free formula complements all skin tones and helps makeup stay put. Contains a Vitamin E derivative, known to protect skin from free radicals."

Now here's my thoughts on it:

What I Like:

-It's Oil Free and has Vitamin-E in it to help shield and protect the skin from the elements.

-Minimizes the appearance of fine lines and enlarged pores making pores seem less prominent/visible and blurring fine lines so they aren't as noticeable. It also gives the illusion of smoother more matte looking skin.

-Very little does the job- Only a pea sized amount needs to be used with each application. Applying it is easy- using fingers to pat it on lightly in a very thin layer from the center of the face outward. You will want to focus on the t-zone area where you may be oily and any other areas where there are signs of aging- fine lines and wrinkles. Then, wait for a minute or two before applying any other makeup allowing it to settle in and do the job.

-Helps foundation and any other face products glide right on as well as last longer then usual. Although it is meant to be a pore minimizing balm I like to use it under the makeup like any other primer. Also, I feel like it helps keep oil at bay once it is on.

-Comes in a fancy looking squeeze out tube which makes it very easy to control how much product is dispensed at a time giving the exact amount of product needed with just one press. This means the product won't run out as quickly.

-This primer is a smooth balm with a silky, velvety feel. It's lightweight and doesn't feel extremely greasy once it is on the skin.

-I would say it works it's very best when used on normal-combination skin types.

-It is a light skin colored tint but it blends out to be translucent so will suit all skin shades & colors.

What I Don't Like:

-I don't feel like it completely erases pores or magically make wrinkles and fine lines disappear. In fact if you have overly enlarged pores or very shiny spots you may not even see a real difference when using this product.

-Contains silicone- many people are allergic to this ingredient. If you are I would still recommend taking the chance and trying a little bit to see how it goes as many who are slightly allergic were actually able to use this specific product without any trouble.

-The product itself does seem a little greasy before being applied to the skin and although it is a great product for combination skin can be not so great for very oily or very dry skin. With it's balm like feel it may clog pores and worsen breakouts for those with oily skin and it probably won't do the best job of keeping the makeup from melting right off. For those with very dry skin it may really irritate as it can only dry the skin out more with it's mattifying properties.

-The price is pretty steep for a primer, especially one of this size.

-Although the very slight mild floral lemon scent doesn't annoy me it as it doesn't linger for long, it may really be bothersome to others.

-Although the product can be used on top of makeup I have never done so and I don't know how well that would go after applying all of the face products. Perhaps for oily skinned people this may help at mattifying but otherwise I wouldn't recommend it.

Overall:
I like this product alot. I don't use it on my own face as I have a primer that I like a lot better for my specific skin. I will purchase again when I run out to keep in my makeup artist kit to use on clients that it suits well. I got mine at Sephora.com but it can be purchased at Benefits website or any other sites and stores that offer Benefit Cosmetics.
