Product Comparison: Eyelid Primers + A Giveaway

I've talked about eyelid primers alot lately here on the blog. There are a couple reasons: one is that alot of people don't know how important they are and how much they help to keep eye shadows from creasing and to keep them in place. You can read a little more about eyelid primers HERE. Second reason is because most makeup companies have released their own versions at this point. Some are great and some are not so great. It's hard to find the perfect one that really works. Some are more expensive and some are less expensive so how do you find one that works for you? I have been in search for the best eyelid primers and I have tried a whole bunch. Today, I want to tell you about two that I'm really liking now and compare them for you to help you out when you are shopping. So this is a double product review and comparison. When you finish reading what I think of these two primers scroll to the bottom and read about an exciting giveaway for you: my subscribers!

1)  E.L.F. Mineral Eyeshadow Primer

2) Smashbox Photo Finish Lid Primer

Elf Says: "This gentle and completely sheer Eyeshadow Primer has key vitamins A, C and E to help prevent aging and moisturizes the skin. The formula glides on easily and disappears instantly to create longer-lasting, crease-proof eyeshadow. The Mineral Eyeshadow Primer is designed to be used with your favorite mineral eyeshadow to provide ultimate staying power for beautiful and vibrant color that lasts. 100% mineral based with no parabens, no preservatives and no chemical dyes."

Smashbox Says: "Create the perfect canvas for shadow application with this ultra-luxurious lid primer. Just like our best selling, award-winning face primer, this formula glides on and instantly helps smooth and perfect lids. Wear it alone for a flawless natural eye or under any shadow. Soft focus pearls help diminish the appearance of fine lines and discoloration on the lids."

Here's my honest opinion and observation for these products in no specific order:

1) Off the bat you will notice that the Elf primer looks more pink and the smashbox more yellow in color.

Here's a swatch. It may be a little hard to see but you can basically tell that the one on the left - the elf one is lighter pink and the one on the right- smashbox is more yellowy-orange.

2) In my opinion these are two of the best eyelid primers I've seen in a while. They both work really well to keep my eyeshadow on for hours and they keep the eyeshadow from creasing really well. They also really make the eyeshadow pigments pop and stay bright.

3) The formulas of these two products are definitely very different. The e.l.f. eyelid primer is much more sheer and greasy. The smashbox one is a thicker drier formula and is concealer style primer. Therefore if you have oily skin and more of a greasy eyelid the elf one may not work for you but if you have dry eyelids and you need moisture the elf one may work much better for you.

4) The Smashbox primer has alot more product in it. But they both last a pretty decent amount of time.

5) The packaging is very similar. Not bad at all.

6) Pricing wise they are very different. The elf one is $3.00 which really cannot be beat for the great product it is. The Smashbox one is  $20.00 which is on the more expensive side but I think it's so good and if it works for you it is worth every cent.

7) They do both have a slight scent. But nothing too bothersome.

All in all I really like both of these primers. I would buy both of them again.
